Cabo San Lucas has sunshine almost all year, but each season feels very different. Whales, warm water, big fishing tournaments, quiet beaches or the best prices: the right month depends on what you want from your trip. Here is a simple month-by-month guide from our local team in Los Cabos.
Quick answer: when is the best time to visit Cabo?
- Best weather: November to May. Warm days, cool nights, very little rain.
- Whale watching: mid-December to mid-April.
- Warmest water for snorkeling and diving: August to October.
- Best deals and fewer crowds: late May, June and September (hurricane season starts in June, so buy travel insurance).
- Busiest (and priciest): Christmas, New Year, Spring Break in March and Easter week.
Cabo San Lucas month by month
December to February: whale season and perfect weather
Days are sunny and around the high 70s °F (mid 20s °C), and evenings can feel cool enough for a light jacket. Humpback and gray whales arrive from Alaska, and you can often see them from the beach, a whale watching tour or a private yacht. The holidays are the busiest time of the year, so book villas, yachts and dinners early.
March and April: Spring Break and Easter
Still great weather and still whales until about mid-April. Spring Break brings a party crowd to Medano Beach and the marina, and Easter week (Semana Santa) brings many Mexican families. Expect higher prices and book ahead.
May and June: calm, hot and quieter
The crowds go home and the weather gets hotter and drier. The sea is calm, which makes these months great for snorkeling, paddle boarding and sunset cruises. Prices for villas and yachts are usually better than in winter.
July to October: warm water, fishing and hurricane season
This is the hottest and most humid time of the year. The water is at its warmest, perfect for scuba diving, and sea turtles nest on local beaches, so you can join a baby turtle release. October is famous for the big marlin fishing tournaments. Hurricane season runs June to November and peaks around September, so stay flexible and get travel insurance.
November: our favorite month
The heat breaks, the rain is gone, the water is still warm and the high season has not started yet. November is one of the best months for almost everything: beaches, golf, boats, ATV tours and dinners outside.
What to book early in high season
- Private yachts for sunset or whale watching, especially weekends and holidays.
- Villas with a private chef or butler.
- Airport transfers from SJD for big groups.
- Popular restaurants for sunset dinners (we can book them for you).
Our local tip
If you want whales, good weather and fewer crowds, choose late January or February, avoiding holiday weeks. If you want warm water and lower prices, choose late May, June or November.
